To help you get a great 3D experience, use our checklist below to ensure that you have everything you need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about 3D, we invite you to visit 3D 101--our center for everything 3D. To get started with 3D, please ensure that you have: | | A Display The first--and most important--item you'll need is a 3D-ready display--whether it be a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays usually have a higher processing power than older models as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect. | | | | A Source While your display is ready for 3D playback, you still need a device to read 3D content (i.e., a movie or a show). This source can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3. | | | | Content In order to watch 3D, you will need to get some 3D content. This 3D content will come from the source mentioned above in the form of a 3D program, movie, or game. Please ensure that your 3D movies are in the Blu-ray 3D format, as this new format will provide the best 3D experience. | | | | 3D Glasses All 3D HDTVs on the market require Active Shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. You will need to buy one pair of glasses for each viewer. Also make sure that the Active Shutter glasses you buy are compatible with your display--for example, buy the glasses from the same brand as your 3D HDTV. | | | | HDMI Cable To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a hgh-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation--with bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second)--will be able to carry the 3D signal without any loss of quality. | If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D. Fantastic!!! Samsung BD-C7900Aug 17, 2010
By Lynn I upgraded from the Samsung 6900...which was exactly the same as the 7900 except the 7900 has two HDMI outputs...1 HDMI (video/audio) and 1 HDMI (audio). The 6900 does have 7.1 analog outputs that way the blu-ray player does the decoding for all the HD audio formats...but since my Onkyo receiver also decodes HD audio I wanted to having the settings at BITSTREAM (AUDIOPHILE). My receiver is 1.3 HDMI compatible but not 1.4 HDMI (3D ready) so I send HDMI (video/audio) to my 3D tv and the other HDMI (audio) to my receiver...the sound is INCREDIBLE. I love all the wireless features this blu-ray player has...netflix, pandora, blockbuster, and many more. Very easy to set up and use. I highly recommend both the Samsung 6900 and even more so the 7900 because of the two HDMI outputs. I have had NO problems at all with either blu-ray player. The picture quality and audio are top notch...PERFECTION!!!

Very solid player, 3D, super-fast, tons of internet apps & dual-HDMI!Aug 23, 2010

I purchased this BD player more for the fact that it has two HDMI out jacks (currently very rare) than the 3D capability, which I'm not currently using. I have a Denon 4806 receiver that I paid an arm and a leg for a few years back that unfortunately only passes 1080i through it's HDMI system. I wanted to be able to get 1080p out to my TV while still enjoying the lossless HD sound through HDMI, and the dual outputs here solved that perfectly (HDMI splitters didn't work and I don't want to use analog out connections).
Besides the obvious draw of it's 3D playback capability, the C7900 is pretty full featured player. It has built-in wireless and ethernet adapters for internet connectivity, which includes Netflix, Blockbuster, YouTube, Facebook, Pandora and a ton of others apps that are currently available. You can actually add and remove them as you see fit. Pretty impressive. Netflix streaming was excellent over wireless even with HD content and the Pandora worked perfectly too. I did not try the other apps yet. It can also update firmware from the web, with auto-notification if desired, and it prompted me to update when I did the initial setup which went without a hitch. There's internal 1GB of storage for BD-Live stuff (actually only about 600MB free out-of-the box though) or you can use the USB jack in the front for it (no rear jack). The USB also allows for reading media from thumbdrives, etc. Picture and audio quality are excellent, with the usual adjustments and presets available to you. Boot-up is almost instantaneous and BD disc loading speed (with and without Java) is super-fast, seemingly quicker than my Playstation 3.
Build quality is good. It's a small form factor, button-less front face, with a pretty cool see-through top over the disc drive area. It's illuminated, along with a 3D BD logo, with dynamic white LED's (which can be turned off if desired) and the touch-sensor transport buttons (stop, play/still, eject and power) along the front top edge of the player. The remote is non-illuminated and is pretty comfortable to hold with nicely laid-out flat buttons. Connectivity jacks are 2 HDMI out (1 audio only), 1 component and 1 composite video, 1 L/R RCA audio out, 1 optical audio out, 1 ethernet and 1 front USB jack (behind a little swing out cover). The player gets warm underneath, but it didn't feel out of the ordinary to me.
The nitpicks I have with this player are minor. You can only dim the front panel display, not turn it off completely. The on-screen display doesn't tell you the type of audio track going out (just MULTI-CH). A coaxial audio out would've been nice as an option to optical. Other than that if you're willing to pay a little premium for the 3D, this player is well worth consideration.

Good playerAug 03, 2010
By Corey Fisher I think the other guy has a screen calibration problem or the unit is in an enclosed space... I haven't noticed anything wrong with this player or any screen discoloration and given proper ventilation, it doesn't seam to really get hot either. My cable box is way hotter by comparison... all you have to do is keep it in open air, don't put electronics in enclosed spaces, put them on open and non-cluttered shelves and they will not overheat. It's a great player, it's extremely fast and faster then any other blue-ray I've player I've seen yet. The 1080p up-scaling tags along with players that cost three times as much and it's loaded with features. It also plays with older TV's well, hence the 2nd and more compatible hdmi connection.

Highly RecommendedNov 14, 2010
By honest Pros :
* Fast Loading time
* Best optical lens
* consistency in playing back or reading different file types and disc types
* Feature rich internet entertainment
The Samsung BD-C7900 has a fast boot up and disc load time .Skipping between BD menu options was smooth not to mention the good picture quality.
It has ( also the BD-C6900) the best optical lens compared to other competitors like LG and Sony. A few minor scratches on your disc and LG(LGBD570,LGBD590,LG BX580) and Sony(Sony BDP-S570) has problems with playback, but the Samsung deals with these like a pro.Smooth playback everytime.This is important while choosing a player because your discs will undergo some damages with time.
Internet setup aswell as updating the software was a breeze.
Internet Tv experience is excellent with a wide variety of services to choose from like Netflix,Hulu, Blockbuster,Vudu, Pandora etc.Whats best is you can add and remove these applications from the settings. Samsung also has the Samsung Apps which allows new applications to be added in future.
Comparing Samsung BD-C7900 with 3D and Non 3D models of LG it reads files like JPEG with a lot more consistency. The LG BD 570 failed to read a lot of JPEG images which the Samsung BD-C7900 had no problems displaying.
Playing back music from HDD (NTFS and FAT 32 both are supported unlike Sony BDP-S570 which does NOT support NTFS) was smooth. Album art was clearly displayed which the LG BD570 failed to do.
On video playback it plays most file types.
Best thing about this player is the second HDMI port which you can use to connect the player directly to your audio system while the other HDMI is also directly connected to your TV. This is an important feature if you are considering 3D playback.
In the looks department I found this the most elegant, with a glossy black finish and touch controls on the top surface.The drive can be seen from the look through top lit up with blue LED. The light can be controlled from the settings menu.The front display intensity can also be varied.
Other features : The remote feels good to the touch specially the menu browsing and select button which are smooth and not tacky or rubbery like other brands.
Bottomline good and unique features,robust and smooth playback ,fast bootup and disc loading time.

A great and versatile little machineNov 19, 2010
By Triko I got this blu ray player a couple of weeks ago, and thought I should chime in. I got it for its two Hdmi outputs. I was also considering the Panasonic DMP-BDT300 because it also has two hdmi outputs, but I was dissuaded by repeated reports of audio/video drops and, related hdmi handshake problems. This player, however, has performed like a champ since I got it on both audio and video fronts. Added to which I was able to buy it brand new at half the MSRP, meaning that it was priced far below the current price of the Panasonic BDT300. I have the audio hooked to my Denon hdmi 1.3 receiver, and the video hooked straight to my Panasonic 3d tv. It gives you the option to suppress the audio signal to the tv when the receiver is on, which is an excellent idea since having both audio signals on tends to produce a slight echo effect. Personally, I did not suppress the audio signal to the tv, as there are times when I would like to play the blu ray player without having my receiver on. However, when both receiver and tv are on, I just lower the volume on the tv, and the echo effect disappears. Another cool feature which I did not expect is that this Samsung has intuitively synched itself up with my Panasonic 3d tv, even though the BD-wise function is not engaged: it automatically turns itself on when I power on the Panasonic tv within the blu ray channel, and turns itself off when the tv turns off. The Samsung internet Apps are great too, but the bottomline is that this machine has performed without any hiccups since day one, and it has not given me any reason to expect that things will be different any time soon. In this product category (of 3d/dual hdmi blu ray players), this is probably the best performing and the best-priced machine currently available on the market, although, of course similar machines may appear sooner than later. If you're considering this product, I do not think you will go wrong if you get it.
